The City wants to return this beautiful field to its "natural state" and build a large parking lot in the coastal scrub area (which is currently natural) just to the south of the field. They'd also put in an access road from the college campus to the newly-developed portion of the park.
The college softball team has used the field for 33 years and takes good care of the field and surrounding areas.
While I love natural areas and typically side with the tree-huggers in any dispute, this time I'm with the softball team and don't see any value in redeveloping the park with a "restored area" and a new parking lot.
